Transforming Health | 01.21.13
“I’m a couch potato.” “I’m not a runner.” “I don’t belong to a gym.” “I’m too busy and don’t have enough time to work out.” Sound familiar? Well, there’s good news for you!
The C25K app takes you from couch potato to 5k runner in just 2 months!
There’s an app for that!
The Couch-to-5K ® (C25K) Mobile App acts as your personal trainer, helping you ease into a manageable running program over the course of two months- and transforms you from a couch potato to 5k runner!
Many people are turned off by running because they push themselves to do too much too soon… and then give up. But, this program starts out as a walking and jogging program, that is designed to ease you into a running program as you build strength and endurance that will get you running three miles (or 5K) on a regular basis in just two months.
- You workout 3 times a week, ideally with breaks between days.
- Each workout session is from 30-40 minutes long (including 5 minutes warm up and 5 minutes cool down)
Mike from Mechanicsburg says about the app:
"This is a great, free app that will help you 'train without the pain' for a 5K race in just 2 months. All you have to do is click START!"
"The popular Couch-to-5K app helps new runners avoid injury from doing too much, too soon."

Malena Nebeker says: LOVE THIS APP!
"I HATED running before I found this app. Now, I just turn on my Pandora, hit the start button, and the Sergeant tells me everything I need. When to walk, jog, the halfway point. No need to keep track of anything as long as you're outside. The GPS keeps track of the distance and pace for me. I love the support from the website and the extra goals that keep me motivated. The biggest advice I can give you: register for a 5k before you start. It keeps me motivated to continue on the days I don't want to run."
The CDC says that “More time equals more health benefits” when it comes to getting physical activity. If you go beyond the recommended 300 minutes a week of moderate-intensity activity, or 150 minutes a week of vigorous-intensity activity, you'll gain even more health benefits.
More time equals more health benefits.
This WINNER of the 2012 Appy Award for best Healthcare & Fitness App has received rave reviews:
"It's ridiculously easy to use (it's hard not to, as you just do what you're told) and it's fantastic that you have an encouraging voice talking you through things."
—Engadget, June 2012
"Active.com’s Couch-to-5K is one of my favorite couch-to-5K apps. With its customizable features, interactivity, and well-rounded interface, I may actually stay off the couch this time."
—148Apps, October 2011
"I knew as soon as I decided to start the Couch-to-5K program that I would need something to keep me accountable—not just to showing up for my training, but to actually doing it properly. Of course there’s an app for that."
—CalorieLab, April 2012
"If you have been struggling to get your buns off the couch and somewhat in shape before the summer hits, training for a 5K is not a bad way to start. If you are looking for a program to help get you there, then the “Couch-to-5K” running plan by CoolRunning is probably your best bet if you haven’t done an ounce of athletic activity for a number of years."
