LANCASTER, PA, March 2013 -- The Lancaster Heart & Vascular Institute will sponsor “Be a Heart Smart Woman” on Tuesday, April 2, at the Worship Center, 2384 New Holland Pike in Lancaster. The event begins at 4:30 p.m. with a healthy buffet, followed by educational sessions from 6 to 8 p.m. about reducing heart disease risks and understanding the connection between diabetes and heart health.
Participants can meet emcee Ann Fulton, of Fountain Avenue Kitchen, from 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. Fulton is known to many for her bi-weekly food column in the Sunday News and recipe blogs on her website. She was recently selected by Sargento Foods to develop recipes on top food trends and will be working with celebrity chefs.
Dr. Gurpinder Chatha, cardiologist with The Heart Group of Lancaster General Health and medical director for the Women’s Heart Health Clinic at Women & Babies Hospital, will speak on “The Diabetes/Heart Disease Connection: Understanding Your Risks.” Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner JoAnn Detweiler, Diabetes & Endocrinology Specialists, will speak on “Choose Well and Manage Your Diabetes.”
Ann Fulton will share some of her favorite recipes and attendees will find healthier options in the kitchen by sampling olive oils and balsamic vinegars. Guests may also join in a hula hoop fitness demonstration and check out the latest spring fashion trends as they browse a variety of vendors.
The event cost of $10 includes a light, healthy meal and a special gift.
