Steps to Good Health
Peg Bradford | 03.19.13
I am 47 years old and in menopause. I gained a lot of weight and felt terrible, and knew I needed to make some changes in my life.
Three years ago I created my own diet and exercise plan (no diet pills or crazy diets). It’s a plan I can follow the rest of my life. I lost 75 lbs in one year and have kept it off for a year. I feel great physically and emotionally.
I wanted to share my story and reach out to others with the same challenges I have, so I started a Facebook page called STEPS TO GOOD HEALTH, which is a positive support group for weight issues and getting on the road to good health.
STEPS TO GOOD HEALTH is a positive supportive place with over 4,400 amazing people from around the country, and even the Philippines, Hong Kong, Japan, including the Connecticut area. And, its growing everyday!
We do todays tips, steps challenges, recipe boards and local walks, and we are there 24/7 to support each other however we can.
I am so blessed to be a part of it. People can be themselves, no pressure, no judging. Everyone is welcome, we have teens, tweens, woman, men and seniors alike.
Everything on my Facebook page is free and I volunteer my time for it. My goal is to reach out to as many people around the country as I can. I want to let them know that they are not alone, they have a place to go for all the help and support they need.
We are making a difference in each others life... one step at a time.

I have several members that have emailed me, saying since they joined our group, they've lost weight, their blood numbers have come down and they feel great.
Two of my members, Jenn from Maryland (lost 40lbs) and Trisha from Texas (lost 80lbs), are being featured in success stories in their home towns and are attributing their success to our group's support.
I am so touched when I hear that, it brings tears to my eyes, because that's all I ever wanted to do, is reach out to all these amazing people.

The day that I found this group my life literally changed in the most amazing and wonderful way ... you all have quite frankly taken years off of me and changed not only my body but my entire outlook on life ... I now am positive that anything is possible if I put my mind to it and I CAN DO IT ... it's a feeling that I hope continues to spread throughout this group and beyond. Here is a HUGE Thank You from me to all of you for helping to keep me motivated and moving in the right direction.

A pedometer keeps track of the steps you take.
On May 3, 2011 I decided I needed to take control of my life and lose weight to help ease the pain in my knees. I started by daily walks on the treadmill at our local community center. I started off slow and some pounds started to come off. In July 2011 I came across a Facebook group called "Steps To Good Health" and contacted the founder Peggy Bradford asking if I could join the group. Peggy replied with a quick reply and I was part of the group. Peggy suggested that I use a pedometer to count my steps, within days I had a pedometer and started putting it to use. I quickly discovered that I was easily attaining over 10,000 steps per day and with the more steps I acheived, the more pounds I was losing. I also started participating in the "STGH" monthly step challenges. During the first 4 week step challenge I had walked over 500,000 steps and lost 12 pounds during those 4 weeks. I have now participated in several more step challenges and since May 2011 I have lost a total of 35 pounds. During this time my blood pressure medicine has been cut in half, my cholesterol dropped by 22 points and my triglyceride count deceased from 240 down to 162. The "STGH" has been a big part of my motivation to keep walking, whenever I feel down, I know I can count on other "STGH" members to pick me up and get me moving. It's a great support group and I am proud to be one of it's members.
Steps to Good Health Facebook page was started by my best friend from high school Peggy Bradford who lost 75 pounds in one year! Peggy has been awesome with her health tips and positive attitude and positive motivation for anyone who needs it. No matter how small a step you took on any given day, Peggy praises you and gives you what you need to continue on that road to losing weight, eating healthy and exercising.
I wanted to share with you my experience regarding this wonderful support system on Facebook. Trying to make sure everyone who needs the help can find it and have success in their weight loose battle. Peggy is very inspirational and helpful in my weight loss process and by eating healthy foods. I have lost 4 pounds and exercising each day and feeling better than ever. Being type 2 diabetic it is very important to me to lose the extra weight and eat healthier to get off my medications. I am confident that with Peggy Bradford and her Steps to Good Health Facebook support page I believe I can achieve this goal.
I joined the Facebook group Steps to Good Health after seeing an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer (I think!) I had recently had a stent put in for a 90% blockage in my major coronary artery and was going to cardiac rehabilitation to get back into shape and healthy habits. I love to walk and thought that joining this group would be a good idea. I have found everyone, especially Peggy, has been supportive and helpful with my efforts. Peggy posts healthy tips and recipes, as well. Since joining, I have lost some weight and feel so much better!
