Smart Talk: PA's Medicaid waiver
Matt Paul | 02.27.14
Pennsylvania has formally submitted its Medicaid waiver application to the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services.
The so-called Healthy PA plan would create a new private coverage option for an estimated 500,000 low-income Pennsylvanians, who are currently uninsured, while overhauling the existing Medicaid program.
Governor Corbett expects the changes to save the state $125 million, and he's optimistic the feds will approve the waiver by the time a new budget is signed. The new private insurance option would begin January 1, 2015.
Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare Secretary Bev Mackereth joined us on Smart Talk to discuss the waiver and would it would mean for low-income Pennsylvanians.
