(Harrisburg) -- For those who don't have health insurance, today's the deadline to buy it on healthcare.gov and avoid a tax penalty of hundreds of dollars.
Pennsylvania's Insurance Commissioner has been trying to get the word out after the Trump administration cancelled ads reminding people of the deadline.
Last-minute emails are still getting sent to those who opened up an account on healthcare.gov.
Commissioner Teresa Miller says there's usually a surge of signups as the deadline approaches.
"Typically you do a lot of outreach at the end of open enrollment and you get a lot of people. And you get a lot of those young healthy people that you really need in the risk pool, and that's why I'm so disappointed that these ads were cancelled," says Miller.
There is a lot of talk and confusion about the future of the Affordable Care Act, but Miller says people who don't have insurance should sign up.
No matter what happens on the federal level, insurance policies will remain in effect all this year.
Sign ups close at 11:59 tonight.
