(Harrisburg) -- A Berks County woman convicted of helping a doctor known as the Candyman has been sentenced to six to 18 years in state prison.
State Attorney General Josh Shapiro announced the prison term for 56-year-old Rameeza Chowdhury.
She served as office manager for Mohammed Abdul Rahman Khan, who illegally prescribed thousands of drugs.
Chowdhury told therapists to overbill Medicare, Medicaid, and private insurance companies, and falsify dates to meet legal requirements.
Prosecutors say she also told a therapist to lie to investigators.
Khan had practices in Reading and Pottsville, and illegally wrote more than 31-hundred prescriptions.
He pleaded guilty to prescribing the drugs, and was sentenced to two to four years in prison in 20-15.
