There's a shift that's taking place in the American health care system from a primary focus on treating individuals when they are sick and injured to establishing relationships between individuals and health care providers to manage overall health and well-being. Transforming Health is a broad-based, multimedia project, with the goal of presenting the policy and personal health choices we face in today's health system. By taking a closer look at health care, its quality and its costs, and the importance of maintaining health in the first place, through individual and collective action, we'll all be better prepared to face the rapidly approaching future of health in America and in Central Pennsylvania.
This project is brought to you by the Emmy Award and Murrow Award-winning Facing Cancer Together team.
A message from Kathleen A. Pavelko, President and CEO of WITF
Great goals require collaboration--organizations can accomplish more when they work together. Transforming Health is a multimedia project to educate our region's citizens about a health system in the process of transformation--from a system that treats people mostly when they are sick or injured to a system that manages the health of individuals and populations.
The goals of Transforming Health, which began with WellSpan Health and WITF, are now advanced with Penn State Health as our newest partner. With these trusted health care providers, researchers and educators, Transforming Health can present the policy and personal health choices we will face in the continuing transformation of the American health care system.
We invite you to share your questions, your views and your suggestions on this website and on our air. witf and our partners have committed our talents and energies to this vital endeavor. It will take all of us to help our region become--and stay--healthy.
A message from Craig Hillemeier, M.D., CEO, Penn State Health, Senior Vice President for Health Affairs, and Dean of Penn State College of Medicine
Penn State Health and Penn State College of Medicine are pleased to be a part of Transforming Health. This endeavor provides a robust opportunity to explore the forces that are impacting health care and influencing our health.
We know from research that chronic diseases or conditions, including heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, obesity and arthritis, are among our most common, costly and preventable of all health problems. The choices we make every day play a key role in our ability to prevent or manage these conditions.
Penn State Health's mission is to enhance central Pennsylvanians' quality of life through patient care, education, research and community outreach.
We see Transforming Health as an innovative forum for discussions that can educate and empower each of us to make informed choices that will elevate our health and wellbeing, and improve our understanding of a rapidly changing health care landscape. We look forward to being part of the conversation.
A message from Kevin Mosser, M.D., president and CEO of WellSpan Health
My colleagues across WellSpan Health and I are excited to be a part of Transforming Health. Most of us are aware that our country's health care environment is undergoing tremendous change, yet we might not all understand or appreciate how these changes can improve our overall state of health and that of our communities.
We at WellSpan Health are committed to helping individuals across this region to lead better lives, and we are confident that the information that we share through this partnership will go along way toward this most important goal.
Indeed, it is our hope that this website and the other components of the Transforming Health initiative will inspire and support each of you in your journey toward better health. We look forward to joining you in thoughtful discussion and analysis in the weeks and months ahead.
