There’s a shift that’s taking place in the American health care system from a primary focus on treating individuals when they are sick and injured to establishing relationships between individuals and health care providers to manage overall health and well-being. Transforming Health is a broad-based, multimedia project, with the goal of presenting the policy and personal health choices we face in today’s health system. By taking a closer look at health care, its quality and its costs, and the importance of maintaining health in the first place, through individual and collective action, we’ll all be better prepared to face the rapidly approaching future of health in America and in Central Pennsylvania.
This project is brought to you by the Emmy Award and Murrow Award-winning Facing Cancer Together team.
A message from Kathleen A. Pavelko, President and CEO of witf
Organizations can accomplish greater goals when they work together. But partnerships are difficult-they take time to develop and to nurture. Individuals have to get to know and trust each other. With Transforming Health, witf is honored to continue an already successful partnership with WellSpan Health, Lancaster General Health and PinnacleHealth.
When our organizations joined forces for Facing Cancer Together, the result was trusted media programs, community recognition and regional and national awards (Mid-Atlantic Emmy and Edward R. Murrow award). On that foundation, we are building Transforming Health. Our goal is to present the policy and personal health choices we will face as the American health system shifts from treating individuals when they are sick to helping individuals manage their overall health.
We invite you to share your questions, your views and your suggestions on this website and on our air. witf and our partners have committed our talents and energies to this vital endeavor. It will take all of us to help our region become--and stay--healthy.
A message from Kevin Mosser, M.D., president and CEO of WellSpan Health
My colleagues across WellSpan Health and I are excited to be a part of Transforming Health. Most of us are aware that our country’s health care environment is undergoing tremendous change, yet we might not all understand or appreciate how these changes can improve our overall state of health and that of our communities.
We at WellSpan Health are committed to helping individuals across this region to lead better lives, and we are confident that the information that we share through this partnership will go along way toward this most important goal.
Indeed, it is our hope that this website and the other components of the Transforming Health initiative will inspire and support each of you in your journey toward better health. We look forward to joining you in thoughtful discussion and analysis in the weeks and months ahead.
A message from Michael A. Young, MHA, F.A.C.H.E., President & CEO for PinnacleHealth
PinnacleHealth is proud to be a partner in the Transforming Health initiative. We can be certain that our healthcare system is changing, and as a result, we must do more than understand today’s needs. We must anticipate and plan for the future.
Our quality, commitment and exceptional healthcare providers are here whether you need primary care or a complicated surgery. We are moving in a direction that will continue to address the needs of our community as we both grow and the expectations of healthcare change.
Your role in the quality of your health and wellness is changing as well. This requires that your healthcare providers offer more education, guidance, support and accessibility. We hope that the Transforming Health Initiative provides the information and support you need as we travel this road of change together.
Our vision is progressive, but our goal is the same—improving the health and well-being of the community we serve.
